What can it do for you ?

Write and share dive stories
Site members can publish their dive stories with pictures. You can choose to keep them private or publish on the main page.
Add links
The diving friends section contains links recommended by users.
Find diving events
Site members can add events to the calendar that every one can browse.
Browse great photos
There are some great photos of British marine life published on the site. The screen show uses Pic-lens which needs a one off 2Mb download to your browser. Its available for the major browsers; IE6, IE7, Firefox and Safari.
Diving facts at your finger tips
The diving facts pages pull in scuba information from Wikipedia.
Is it easy to use ?
The web site is built using the popular Joomla software. This has so many features that its important to keep things simple. Browsing round the web site is simple but editing a blog posting the first time might be a little overwhelming because there is so much you can do.
We were a little confused with the photo gallery. If you don’t download PicLens you can still browse through the photos but can’t get back to the rest of the site. If you do, you need a large browser window to see and use it which means you can’t browse mobile on PDAs or eeePCs.
Does it travel ?
You should have no problems adding your diving story at the beach internet shack. The home page will take some time to download because it loads all the pictures and then chooses to display one at random. (switch off stylesheet to see this)
Is your personal information secure ?
You need a valid email address to set up an account but are asked for no further personal information. We could find no privacy policy on the web site.
What do you agree to ?
We could find no terms of use on the web site.

Tess needs you!
We say
Rec Diver is Tess’s student project to build and maintain a Virtual Organisation. The technology is nicely done but the difficult bit is always getting people to come along and participate. If everyone who reads this review adds or rates just one diving story we could get her top marks!

Thanks to all who participated in the study and I’m delighted to report back that I got a Distinction for my MSC. The site has gone so well, I’m going to keep running it. Thanks, ScubaFreebies.
Excellent news, the diving facts look great. We’ve updated the review accordingly :D
Dive Wiki has been replaced by Diving Facts that provide links to Wikipedia content. Sadly not interactive (just haven’t got enough time to sort that out) but still informative. Many of the blogs contain links to Wikipedia as well now.
