What can it do for you ?

Post your résumé or CV for employers to see
Divers can upload a covering letter and a résumé or CV to the database for free. You add your address details separately but cannot say where you would like to work nor what kind of work you are looking for (Divemaster, instructor, liveaboard instructor etc).
Search available diving jobs
The search is not great. It is USA centric – you can only search by US state or generic ‘international location’. And the job categories are general, not specific for diving jobs. The jobs come back in no particular order and you cannot re-sort them. Jobs don’t have an ‘apply by’ date.
Employers can post job adverts
Employers can sign up to browse the database of divers résumés and CVs and they can post job advertisements. All employer services are charged and managed through the sister site Scuba Recruiters.
Get help with your résumé or CV
The web site is run by a professional HR company. They can help you make the best of your résumé or CV for a small fee.
Is it easy to use ?
No – it is difficult to bookmark any of the pages because the site is contained within frames. (If you look at the address bar in your browser as you move round the site the address never changes from “scubajobsonline.com”)
No – if you have searched for a job once and then decide to change what you search for it just takes you back to original results. Your search parameters are stored until you close your browser and start again. Its not very friendly.
No – the front page has scrolling text and constantly flashing and scrolling icons. That makes it very difficult for people with dyslexia or other reading difficulties to read.
Does it travel ?
Scuba jobs online uses a third party service called Career Site Builder . That depends on javascript to check user input. If your internet café doesn’t have it, Career Site Builder does not handle it well and sends you a nasty database error. It is also very slow to respond which may be worse with a slow internet connection.
Is your personal information secure ?
They will look after your résumé or CV and only use it for employment purposes.
What do you agree to ?
That they will use your résumé for employment purposes.

We say
The people behind Scuba Jobs Online have a long history in recruitment and a good sense of social responsibility. But Career site Builder was a poor choice of third party software for Scuba Jobs Online. It is not customised for the diving market and has a number of software problems that make it difficult and unreliable to use.
Divers look for work all over the world. They want to search by country and know what visas are needed or supplied by the employer. They want to search by type of diving job and know what qualifications are required. And most importantly they need to know when to apply by so they don’t waste time chasing jobs already gone. Scuba Jobs Online using Career Site Builder doesn’t do any of this so fails before it starts.
